Good shepherd with sheep, made of resin, hand painted Landi Moranduzzo series 20 cm. The shepherd of the time was the one and only responsible for the flock of sheep. In the morning each shepherd called his own sheep to him who, recognizing their voice, followed him and walked behind him. Jesus presents a variant of the ancient image of the shepherd: he is the "Good" shepherd not a mercenary: he loves his sheep and calls them one by one; he does not flee from the wolf, but defends his sheep to the point of giving them the turn. For this new interpretation given by Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd is often represented with the sheep on his shoulders, almost as if he were a son.
