St. Francis with doves in the resin.

During the night of Christmas of 1223, in Greccio, Saint Francis reproduced the birth of Jesus by a living representation of that event. According to the hagiographies, during the Mass, the infant representing the christ Child would come to life several times in the arms of Francis. This episode gave rise to the tradition of the nativity scene.
